Monday Muzak II: Indie Jones

From the limelight to the underground, I'm taking a look at the music behind some of the most amazing indie games in the last few years.

"Every day the same dream" is a "..little art game about alienation and refusal of labour". After playing the game, which you can do here, you're treated to several underlying surprises. Throughout the game this song is looped again and again, mocking the constant hammering and rolling tenacity of every day life. I completely expected Moby to dish out some Blues lyrics by the time I touched the cow.

Hit the jump for more.

Aquaria's soundtrack is a large part of the game's atmosphere, which lends a helping hand to strengthen its story and cinematic feel. If you haven't checked it out yet, the demo is a delicious taste of what the game has to offer.

Chiptune is a genre of music that takes the generic bleeps and bloops of the NES/Atari era and forms a variety of blip-style tunes. Cave Story's soundtrack, which was designed with a program the game's creator had made, is a good example. This track comes with a hint of Ska and a driving melody.

Castle Crashers, created by Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp, had music created by a variety of artists from Fulp's popular Newgrounds website. This track, titled "WinterBliss, is one of my favorites. Harking back to the first Monday Muzak, all you need is a looping techno song to help you slash and splash your way to victory.

Robot Unicorn Attack is quite a hit. Its catchy lingo and inspiring flamboyance could turn the manliest man ever (see: Steven Slater) into glittery rainbow colored gel.

  1. I am pleased to see Castle Crashers here, I absolutely loved the soundtrack to that game. And I am excited to try Every day the same dream...
