Monday Muzak LVIII: Peaceful Home

Chrono Trigger begins with a festival. The townsfolk are participating in games, selling their goods, and celebrating the turn of the millennium with smiles on their faces. Balloons are in the air. People are drinking limitless amounts of...whatever they drink in the game. After a series of unfortunate events, mostly comical, the characters find themselves in a bleak, dark, undesirable future. Before long, the central drive and focus of the story begins. Without establishing that sense of "we can't take our peaceful time for granted", the story might have fallen short. These heroes have seen a glimpse of what could come after their lives are long gone, yet they selflessly deem it necessary (with a nod from the silent protagonist) to take responsibility for changing the bleak future into a bright one.

The game does what it can to help players relate with the characters. Home is a peaceful, colorful place that deserves to be celebrated. It deserves to be saved for future generations.
