Monday Muzak XLIX: Sound of the Pre-ocalypse
Every now and again I venture back into the world of Guild Wars to reminisce. The original campaign's lush and peaceful "pre-searing" environment was always something I enjoyed exploring. After "the searing", which burns away a kingdom's forests and boils its waters, players travel the expanse of a massive continent. Green jungles, red mountains, and deadly ice-covered wastelands await. Most of that journey is aided by fellow players or computer controlled henchman. During the "pre-searing" portion of the game, however, players are primarily flying solo. I love it. Coupled with a tune like Soule's Ashford Abbey, I always feel a sense of wonder when I step into a world shortly before its imminent demise.
