Monday Muzak I

When you meet new people a few generic questions are always at the forefront of a conversation to get things rolling. What are your hobbies? What do you do for a living? Do you enjoy cake? What kind of music do you listen to?

"Video game music." I'd say. I listen to it when I drive, while I work, and...well, when I play games. Hence, Monday Muzak. Each week I'll be sharing a song, a video, or reflecting on my main source of inspiration.

If the interface and control scheme of a game were the right hand, the music and sound would surely be the left. Together they create the feedback, the response and communication, that act as a connection between yourself and the world within the game.

Sound amplifies the atmosphere and tone of a game. It draws you in and encourages you to get into the zone. Whether it is the snap and click of your rifle as you reload or the gentle breeze of wind as you wander the wilderness looking for adventure, good sound design does everything it can to create rewarding, powerful audio elements.

Sometimes, all it takes is a looping techno song as you punch and kick your way to victory.

Also, I do enjoy cake. Primarily the ice cream variety.
